Description: Though we could never find a written version of this recipe, I remember waking up at 4am when we went for a visit to Horatio (the great-grandkids slept under the kitchen table) and great-grandma was busy in the kitchen already making breakfast for everyone, this recipe is cobbled together from my grandmother and mother watching her make them, and I've tried it many times.
Time: 35 min (20 min to prepare, 15 min to cook)
Meal type: Bread
Ethnicity:
Number of Servings: 12
Ingredients:
3 C flour
3 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
6 tbsp lard
1 pinch salt
1 C buttermilk to stiffen
Directions:
Sift Flour, powder, soda and salt. Cut in the fat. Add enough buttermilk to make a stiff dough. Roll out to about 3/4" thick. Cut biscuits with a jelly jar or glass or whatever is handy and place in well-greased cast-iron pan. Bake at 350 until done, about 10-15 minutes.

You may or may not use all the buttermilk. Or you may need more.
Notes:

These ingredients are close, but missing something. I have a feeling it's because she would have used a baking pan greased with pork fat, but this recipe is pretty close." title="pinch of salt is to taste, depending on what kind of fat you use.
