Description:
Time: 30 min (10 min to prepare, 20 min to cook)
Meal type: Bread
Ethnicity: Mexican
Number of Servings: 20
Ingredients:
4 C All Purpose Flour
1.5 teaspoon baking powder
4 teaspoon sugar
3 teaspoon salt
1 stick shortening
1.25 C hot water
Directions:
In large bowl combine flour, baking powder, sugar & salt and mix well. Then evenly crumble shortening in flour mixture. Add half of the hot water and knead with your hands, then add remaining water and form dough into a ball. I like to take ball out of bowl once its formed and knead a little on counter and then place back in bowl with a damp paper towel over it. Let stand for atleast 30 minutes.

Then form 2" rounds with the dough. Before rolling the tortillas I like to flatten the rounds and cover both sides with flour. Just get a small plate with a mound of flour and press rounds into the flour.

To flatten tortillas, use a rolling pin, or a wine bottle works great too. :) I like my tortillas a little thick so I roll them to about 8" or 9" round.

When ready to cook, make sure skillet, or pan, is HOT. Cook on 1 side until bubbles form, then flip just once and cook on second side.
