| Ingredients: | ||
1/2 cup rice 1/2 cup Urad dal (black gram) 1/2 cup chana dal (chick pea) 1/2 cup moong dal (green gram) 1/3 cup red chillies 2 cups onion 1/4 cup grated coconut 1/3 cup curry leaves 1 stick fresh ginger 5 slices green chillies 2 tsp cumin 1 tablespoon Salt |
| Directions: | ||
| Wash rice and all the grains till water turns clear. Soak for 4-6 hours. Grind the soaked rice and dal together coarsely with half onion, red chillies, ginger, curry leaves, cumin and salt. Ferment for 3-4 hours. When preparing, finely chop the rest of the onion, green chillies, curry leaves, kothmir and add it to the ground mixture. Add the grated coconut (optional). Taste to see if salt is sufficient. Heat the pan and dip an onion wedge in oil and smear the pan till the pan is coated with a thin layer of oil. Take a spoonful of batter and spread it evenly on the pan. It will not spread smoothly but try to spread it as thin and evenly as possible. Cook till crisp on both sides. Serve with coconut/tomato or peanut chutney. |
